Burbank’s twentieth century roots took hold in the aviation and entertainment industries. Burbank was home to the early aircraft manufacturing industry (Lockheed et al.) and notable aviation pioneers Howard Hughes and Amelia Earhart. The city was and is still home to several motion picture and television studios like Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Walk Disney, NBC and ABC Studios. During Burbank’s initial phase of growth and development (1917-1945), Bungalow and Revival Style (Spanish Colonial, English Tudor, Dutch Colonial, and Queen Anne Victorian) homes were built. The postwar era (1946-1970) saw extensive suburbanization with the construction of many single-family Ranch and Craftsman style homes. Burbank Town Center is a large shopping mall at the northern edge of the main drag, home to a large, multiplex theater. The 456,000-square foot Burbank IKEA store south of Downtown is the largest in the United States, drawing huge weekend crowds of furniture shoppers on weekends.

If you live in Burbank, you’ll love the convenience of Bob Hope Airport (BUR). It’s smaller and much less congested than the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Security lines are short, and traffic in and out is sparse, making drop offs and pickups quick and easy. Locals only use LAX if they must, as might be the case for international travel.

Metrolink and Amtrak trains provide service right through the heart of Burbank, and the former can get you to Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) in a snap.

Parks & Recreation

The biggest recreation area in Burbank is Wildwood Canyon Park, home to killer hiking trails and phenomenal panoramic views of the entire San Fernando Valley to the Downtown Los Angeles skyline. Steep trails make for a great glute workout. Great trails are also found in nearby Stough Canyon Park (and Nature Center).
