Historic Filipinotown Listings
L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) sits at the southwest corner of Echo Park, flanked by the 101 Freeway and Beverly Boulevard (north to south) and North Benton Way and Glendale Boulevard (west to east).
Historic Filipinotown is centrally-located in the city and has moderately hilly terrain, both of which provide the necessary elevation to get great, panoramic views of the City of Los Angeles skyline. HiFi remains a relatively affordable district compared to the rest of L.A. If you look around, you can find Victorian, Craftsman and California Bungalow homes for sale in HiFi.
The neighborhood is culturally diverse despite what its name suggests; roughly 25% of the 400,000 Filipinos living in Los Angeles reside within the district. However, given the historical importance of the community and its Filipino cultural and ethnic roots, the City of Los Angeles gave the area the special designation “Historic” in 2002. In 2011 it was given the federally-recognized designation of a Preserve America Community.
Nearby Echo Lake Park offers visitors a chance to hop aboard and take a fun pedal boat cruise around the lake. If you prefer to walk or jog, you can skirt the lake’s edges on the park’s many walking paths. The adjacent Recreation Center provides youth and adult sports programs and many amenities like a children’s play area, sports fields, picnic tables, gym and seasonal pool.
Also near HiFi sits the 10.5-acre Vista Hermosa Natural Park with its walking paths, picnic areas, and regulation-size soccer field. The urban natural park is operated by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservatory and boasts Mediterranean vegetation, oak savannas, meadows, and streams. If you take your eyes off the greenery and look up, you’ll get some of the best city views in town.
Historic Filipinotown is served by crosstown buses, and the Westlake/MacArthur Park Metro (Red Line) subway station is a short walk. Bikeways also make the neighborhood friendly to navigate.
Silver Lake Medical Center serves the district with its a 212-bed hospital, 24/7 urgent care facilities and medical-surgical services along with a host of specialized behavioral and psychological programs.
