Sherman Oaks and Toluca Lake flank the district on its eastern and western borders while Ventura Boulevard and the 101 Freeway pass through it (along an east/west axis). Studio City's commercial district runs along Ventura Boulevard. Quick freeway access and proximity to major studios (television and film) make this part of Los Angeles highly desirable for folks who work in the entertainment business. In fact, CBS Studio Center sits right in the middle of the community.
The major thoroughfare streets are palm-tree-lined and heavily trafficked. However, side streets through Studio City's neighborhoods are much quieter. In fact, residents find the area relaxing. Here you will find sycamores and other mature shade trees. Well-manicured lawns, charming landscaping, and backyard pools are common.
Shopping centers, boutiques, grocery stores, restaurants, and pubs run along Ventura Boulevard, the primary commercial area of Studio City. If you need something that you can’t find locally, Studio City is centrally-located in L.A., making it easy to run errands to other parts of town, too.
A local gem, Studio City Farmers Market, operates every Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm (rain or shine). Vendors offer organic produce, flowers, cheese, and fruit. Prepared food is also available. The block-long marketplace is kid-friendly (bounce houses, petting zoo) but you’ll need to leave Fido at home. Because there are celebrities who live in the neighborhood, paparazzo can often be seen hanging out, waiting to capture a shot of someone famous buying a Halloween pumpkin or wiping ice cream stains from their kid’s face.
The abundance of Sushi restaurants along the Studio City portion of Ventura Boulevard has earned the nickname Sushi Row. You’ll never be far from great sashimi, rolls, edamame or a cold bottle of Kirin.
The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks operates the Studio City Recreation Center. Facilities include a playground for children, outdoor fitness zone, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball diamond, and picnic tables. The rec center also has sports leagues for kids and adults. The sports programs serve as a valuable resource to the community.
Two other smaller parks spread across the area also contribute to the neighborhood resident’s quality of life. Woodbridge Park has a jogging path and outdoor fitness machines. Moorpark Park has a children’s play area and picnic tables.
For longer walks and hikes, nearby Fryman Canyon Park serves up plenty of eucalyptus trees, wildflowers and Valley views. The paths are rated as "easy," and dogs are welcome. What’s more, the cross-mountain trail system connects 1,000 acres of parkland. Ambitious walkers and hikers can take advantage of these additional trails. If you want more room to roam, Fryman will connect you to Coldwater Canyon Park and then a little further, with Franklin Canyon Park.
